Since its inception more than 30 years ago, Coffee Supreme has always been about great coffee and good vibes, and its newly revamped Abbotsford cafe is no exception. Last week, Not Safe For Queers were fortunate enough to be invited along to experience the new space…and trust us when we say it’s worth checking out.
Housed in the same location (but with nearly double the square footage) the ‘new’ cafe feels like it’s finally been given room to breathe. The flow of the space is markedly improved, offering plenty of spots to sit and sip your brew of choice.
Design-wise, it’s a visual treat: dark wood tones, sleek stainless-steel benchtops, and Supreme’s signature red accents make for a beautifully cohesive space (maybe the internet’s ‘unexpected red’ theory is onto something). A standout feature is the massive grid window where you can watch Coffee Supreme’s roasting process unfold in real-time—a literal BTS moment for coffee lovers.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Melbourne cafe without great coffee and a thoughtful menu. Alongside the classics, Supreme has introduced a playful new offering that pays homage to Victoria Street’s culture and history—the ‘naughty milk’ cold brew. This cheeky twist on a Vietnamese iced coffee is rich, sweet, and indulgent, with options for vegan condensed milk and oat milk for those of us who don’t (or can’t) consume dairy. Pair it with one of their toasties (our fave is the pickle and mustard one), or a light, seasonal salad, and you’ve got yourself a winning combo.
If you’re after something to take home, you’re spoiled for choice . Their limited-edition Holiday roast—fresh, tropical, and perfect in iced form—is available alongside their regular range of recently roasted beans. And let’s not forget the merch. From cute mugs to stylish tees, there’s plenty to tempt you into showing off your Supreme fandom in more ways than one.
The space’s design reflects Coffee Supreme’s ethos of balancing heritage with reinvention. It’s warm and welcoming, with plenty of natural light, tactile details, and mid-century design elements. There’s a sense of organised chaos—just enough to feel creative without tipping into cluttered territory. It’s the kind of place that works whether you’re there to have a quiet moment with a flat white or catch up with mates over a couple of naughty milks.
After over a decade of serving the Abbotsford community, Coffee Supreme has managed to reimagine its cafe as more than just a coffee spot. It’s a space where coffee, conversation, and connection come together seamlessly. Whether you’re stopping by to grab a quick takeaway, sitting down to savour one of their ‘no frills’ dishes (shoutout to the egg salad toast), or getting lost in the roasting process through that expansive window, there’s something here for everyone.
With its revamped interiors, innovative menu additions, and ongoing dedication to quality coffee, Coffee Supreme’s new Abbotsford cafe is a fresh chapter in Melbourne’s coffee scene. It’s a place that feels both familiar and new, balancing nostalgic charm with modern touches.
Pop in and see it for yourself—just be warned, the naughty milk cold brew might become your new obsession.
Coffee Supreme (28-36 Grosvenor Street, Abbotsford) is open 7:00am – 2:30pm Mon – Fri.
